Mental Health Awareness Week is an important reminder that while awareness is vital, action is what truly creates change.
Last week, our team took time onsite to have open and honest conversations around mental health, wellbeing, and the importance of looking out for one another across the construction industry.

Construction is an industry built on resilience, teamwork, and hard work — but it also comes with significant pressures. Long hours, demanding workloads, tight deadlines, physical exhaustion, and personal challenges can all take a toll on mental well-being. Despite this, too many people continue to struggle in silence.
That is why starting the conversation matters.
Sometimes, something as simple as checking in with a colleague, taking five minutes for a conversation, or asking someone if they are okay can make a real difference. Creating a culture where people feel comfortable speaking openly about mental health is essential in helping to break down stigma and encourage support.
The reality is that mental health challenges within construction are widespread. Research from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) highlights the scale of the issue:
These statistics are a stark reminder that mental health is not a side conversation — it is an industry-wide issue that requires ongoing attention, support, and action.
At KDM Group, we believe wellbeing should be part of everyday conversations, both onsite and offsite. Supporting mental health is not limited to one week of the year; it is about creating an environment where people feel supported every day.
We are also proud to support Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and the incredible work they do in providing emotional, physical, and financial well-being support to construction workers and their families. Their work continues to make a meaningful impact across the industry and provides vital support to those who need it most.
As an industry, we all have a role to play in looking out for one another. By continuing to have conversations, encouraging openness, and supporting those around us, we can help create a healthier, more supportive future for the construction industry.
Because mental health matters, and no one should feel they have to face challenges alone.
