KDM Strategic Warehouse Expansion in Warrington

13 June 2022

KDM has recently invested in a second warehouse in Warrington due to the increased demand for further support around the Northern corridor, reflecting the continued expansion of our business and the increased number of projects that have been undertaken. The opening of this new location comes after strong growth in KDM’s best recorded financial year, with an annual turnover of £99 million in 2021.

The new 15,000 sq ft building is in addition to our existing 19,000 sq ft warehouse in Dalgety Bay. This key distribution hub enables us to service our customer base regardless of where they are in the UK with quick and efficient deliveries due to greater flexibility with stockholding whilst minimising costs and carbon footprint.

Mark Jones, Executive Director of KDM Group said “We are delighted to be opening a new warehouse and offices in Warrington. With additional storage space, and dedicated Commercial and Operations Support Teams in place, we can continue to expand to better serve our customers locally and globally. It also allows us to grow our team with skilled and talented staff from the Warrington area.”

The offices have been fitted out to be in line with our company ethos of providing quality workmanship and excellence with value. As office environments continue to change and adapt, we want to ensure our employees “feel at home” and have the opportunity and flexibility to socially interact and collaborate in our breakout areas.

We are based in Dalgety Bay and have regional hubs in Leeds, Warrington, and Zeeland, Netherlands.  We operate locally, nationally, and multi-nationally for many blue-chip clients throughout the UK and EU.

Our workforce has increased over the last few years with us now employing 72 people and our turnover has expanded to £99 million in 2021 as a result of being awarded larger projects and an ever-increasing clientele.

Due to significant growth, we have a newly opened office in Chelmsford, which is only 35 minutes from the centre of London. This is a testament to our commitment to support our existing client base whilst strengthening our capabilities and offerings in London and the South East of England. We want to assist companies in making their vision a reality and we are optimistic about the new opportunities it brings in terms of recruitment and new business.

Mark Jones, Executive Director of KDM Group said, “The opening of our Chelmsford office was another proud moment for us. It’s amazing to see just how quickly we are growing and that is evidence of our success, expertise, and hard work.”

Our office has been designed and fitted out to be spacious, modern, and comfortable. Due to the changing environment of workplaces, we wanted the dynamic of our offices to be versatile, flexible, and collaborative which instilled our happy, company culture. Now post-pandemic and with “hybrid working” the new norm, social settings are now playing a vital role in most workplaces, so a breakout area and natural light were another priority for our new space.

As the football season comes to an end, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on some of the matches and share some of our incredible photos that capture the essence of the sport. As a proud sponsor of the Scottish Cup this season, we were delighted to fly the KDM flag and provide the opportunity for our employees, clients and friends to share the magic of the beautiful game.

The semi-final was a clash of the old firms – Heart of Midlothian Hibernian and Celtic v Rangers and they didn’t disappoint, well depending on which side you supported.

Heart of Midlothian v Hibernian

It’s been 10 years since Heart of Midlothian won the Scottish Cup and 8 years for Hibernian, so both teams had a lot to play for. Hearts opened the scoring 16 minutes into the game then again in the 21st minute. Hibernian then retaliated with a goal in the 22nd minute. Joe Newell got sent off for Hibernian in the 2nd half and the score stayed the same until the 90th minute, sending Hearts into the final.

Celtic v Rangers

Hearts had already secured their place in the final so it was between the Glasgow old firm rivalry – the Hoops and the Teddy Bears to see who would be playing in the Scottish Cup final. It’s been 13 years since Rangers won the cup and 2 years for Celtic. Going into extra time, it was to be “the boys in blue” day with a 2-1 win due to an own goal by Carl Starfelt.

Q&A with Colin Hendry and Cameron Devlin

On Tuesday 17th May KDM hosted the Rangers and Scotland legend Colin Hendry and a young superstar in the making, Cameron Devlin of Hearts. Colin Hendry has 51 caps for Scotland and provided guests with a unique insight into his career at the Q&A whilst also sharing stories from his career at Rangers and Scotland. Cameron Devlin, originally from Sydney, has signed a 3-year contract with Hearts until August 2024 was also a pleasure to chat with him about his experiences in the SPL and Scottish Cup this season.

The SFA brought along the Scottish Cup and allowed us to hear their thoughts about the final, Colin’s stories about the good old days were very entertaining and gave some of our employees a chance to ask them some questions.

The Final – Heart of Midlothian v Rangers

On the day of the Scottish Cup Final there were seas of red, white & blue, and maroon & white, each side hoping and dreaming of lifting the Scottish Cup. As a proud sponsor of the SPL, KDM was there in force supporting both teams.

The game went into extra time where Rangers scored twice in the first half. The score remained 2-0 for Rangers,  hailing them victorious against Hearts.

Congratulations to Rangers FC on their Scottish Cup Win 2021-2022.

Despite low confidence in the UK economy in 2020, KDM’s management was planning to open their new office facility in the heart of Leeds to assist with increasing demand from their client base. The vision was to create a regional centre of excellence supporting the Dalgety Bay Office and manufacturing operation and existing hub in Warrington.

Working within Government guidelines, the KDM Leeds office opened in January 2021, and one office became three to meet the demands of our clients, with KDM Group growth exceeding 200% year on year. The facility has become the centre of operations for our key client providing design, commercial, & technical support at every level for our national site operations.

The phenomenal success of this satellite office has given our clients access to a flexible workspace. This allows them to work collaboratively with our team. We are hosting face to face and virtual meetings shaping the ever-moving world of construction whilst advising & fulfilling stakeholders requirements to the tight timelines demanded in our sector.

Fast forward one year to January 2022, when KDM realised the evolution of our new Warrington facility. By recognising the increased demand for further support around the Northern corridor, KDM’s management has further invested in providing an upgraded hub to supplement the Dalgety Bay & Leeds Offices.

The property initially will house essential materials for our key clients to avoid procurement delays. The forward purchasing & stockholding strategy has been developed with our supply line to help combat the lack of availability & rising costs experienced in the construction industry throughout 2021 & into 2022. However, the 15 000 sq. ft. facility will also house the Warrington Commercial and Operations Support Teams with access to state of the art facilities to deliver expert design, commercial & project management services. This facility underlines our ethos to provide excellence with value.

As the landscape of construction changes and continues to move at pace, KDM will ensure our drive, advice, support and facilities are in place to meet our clients’ needs in 2022 and beyond.

As 2021 drew to a close in an incredibly challenging but equally successful year for KDM Group, our planned Christmas Party had to be cancelled to comply with recent Government guidelines. Rather than spend the funds on Cheese & Wine(!!), our Board of Directors in partnership with our Charity Committee, chose to generously donate to a positive and deserving cause.

Our Charity Committee reviewed many worthwhile causes. After much deliberation, we opted to support Radio Forth Cash for Kids, a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most. At KDM, we were honoured to support their 'Mission Christmas'.

Last month, KDM's charity committee members worked collectively to purchase gifts that were subsequently given to children less fortunate at Christmas. In addition, we raised funds that will help Cash for Kids efforts in supporting disadvantaged children in our local area. In total, we were proud to present gifts and a monetary donation to Cash for Kids at Radio Forth to the value of £2,300. This also included a personal contribution from our CEO.

A spokesperson for the charity commented. "Wow, that's absolutely amazing and so very generous of you all. Thank you so, so much."

Mark Jones, Director at KDM said 'Cash for Kids is a truly terrific charity that supports families living locally to our Head Office. I am thrilled that the team at KDM worked together to help the charity achieve 'Mission Christmas'.

In the face of a global pandemic causing major disruption across the economic landscape, KDM continue to move forward and build on its reputation as a reliable, trusted and accredited supplier delivering fit out, project management, manufacturing and design solutions that exceed client’s expectations.

This summer the team at KDM Group celebrate achieving Gold status with Constructionline. The latest addition to their existing distinguished record of accreditations, the new Gold status will provide assurance and confidence to clients that KDM always deliver their services to industry leading standards.

The Road to Accreditation…

Constructionline are a register for pre-qualified contractors and consultants used by the UK Construction Industry.  They deliver procurement and supply chain management services by helping buyers source suppliers and have been established for over 20 years.

Dedicated to providing first-class and compliant solutions for their clients, KDM have undertook a detailed and rigorous process to meet the strict criteria set by Constructionline in order to achieve the Gold status. Every area of the organisations structure has been evaluated.

“When we embarked on the journey to achieve accreditation, Constructionline assessed our framework of health and safety, environmental, financial, insurance and professional standing.  Additionally, they considered our equal opportunities, diversity, human rights, ethical standing and quality management processes before awarding us with a Gold member status. said Mark Jones, Executive Director at KDM.

He continued “The thorough process ensures we continue to abide to legislation in areas such as modern slavery, anti-bribery and corruption and shows that we have been assessed and adhere to these standards to potential clients.”

Making the Buying Process Easier for Client...

A key benefit of successfully completing the accreditation process is that KDM avoids protracted prequalification now that they have achieved the Gold status award.

Their pre-qualification information has been verified and monitored, ensuring it is always up-to-date and accurate.  This then saves buyers time whilst providing them with an overall peace of mind.

 Extending Health and Safety Accreditation…

Furthermore, the Gold membership includes a Health and Safety accreditation, Acclaim, a member of SSIP (Safety Schemes In Procurement).  Acclaim Accreditation specialises in the award of SSIP certification and the scheme is backed and quality assured by Supplier Assessment Services Ltd.

Constructionline Gold helps KDM demonstrate its commitment to clients having been subjected to increased scrutiny around governance and risk management, allowing them to bid for more projects.

“It is an honour to see our commitment to health and safety, quality, maintaining our high standards and delivering a premium contracting service officially recognised by Constructionline.” concluded Mark Jones.

Our Constructionline registration number is 00477818 and you can contact us on 0844 892 0313 for any further information regarding our accreditation.

I know this is an odd description but KDM have been working closely as a Principal Contractor, supplier and nominated fit out contractor to one of the worlds leading distribution companies.  Unfortunately we are limited on what we can share about our activities  but its still work we are very proud to be associated with.  So without naming any specific company we wanted to show that we have big box capability and deliver the pipelines named above up to a value of £5 000 000 per project throughout the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Spain ,Italy, Czech Republic and others.

Part of our delivery has been assisting this client in developing international roll outs which include KDM design, manufacturing and installation. KDM have successfully programmed and delivered these schemes throughout the UK and rest of Europe.  KDM took the design concept and developed a functional solution as well as programming the logistical distribution and install in more than 6 countries within the EU.  The success of this project has led to continued opportunities throughout Europe and more diverse work streams with the client, this has ultimately led to KDM establishing an entity in the Netherlands to take the European opportunities forward with this client if and when Brexit crystalizes. AMAZING!

In recent times Health and Safety has received a lot of criticism. Health and Safety organizations and workers have been rendered jobsworths, kill joys and plain boring. Stereotyped health and safety regulations have been linked with atrocities such as dulling down science lessons and ruining childhoods by banning British cult classics such as conkers and climbing trees

However, this is far from the aim of the Health and Safety Commission and Executive whose remit is to prevent death, injury and ill health. That is why here at KDM we are all in favour of health and safety but we won’t back down from a game of conkers either. The fit out sector is full of potentially dangerous equipment from hand held tools to machinery. Therefore, health and safety is at the forefront of all our procedures.

KDM currently hold 3 accreditations for our health and safety diligence; Avetta, Alcumus Safe Contractor and (CHAS) Contractors Health and Safety Scheme all of which are recognized SSIPs which is a standard recognized by HSC/E. Increasingly clients are expecting contractors to demonstrate that they have competent health and safety capabilities.  Our qualifications ensure that our staff have specific experience and knowledge to deliver and that we have the resources to meet the client’s needs and this is all achieved in a safe and professional manner.

Health and Safety is a massive part of our sector and allows transparency, fluency, and most importantly protection to workers. Health and Safety may be deemed uncool by some but it is a must for any efficient fit out contractor. There are some myths that underscore the importance of health and safety from hanging baskets being banned in case people bump their head to Christmas decorations being banned in work offices. We don’t know about you guys but our office Christmas tree is up in a safe location and we are all looking forward to a well-deserved Festive break.

Bespoke Furniture

Manufacturing high quality bespoke furniture with installation is one of the main services we provide here at KDM. Bespoke by its very definition means “custom made” and in the furniture industry it relates to furniture that is designed to fit a particular specification. However at KDM we like to go a bit further than just meeting a particular specification and develop our fitting solutions to match and compliment the culture and tone of the venue. We are very lucky to have fitted historic and famous landmarks and worked with very prestigious brands and we respectfully design our bespoke solutions to encompass their traditions.

David Hume Tower at Edinburgh University

Recently we helped fit and revamp the David Hume Tower at Edinburgh University. The tower is named after the famous and pioneering philosopher David Hume. Many of David Hume’s theories still hold relevance in his discipline today. From his theory on “The Uncertainty of Causation” to his ideas on the meaning of “self”, David Hume’s theories paved the way for many modern philosophers. Thus the David Hume Tower represents abstract thought and forwarding thinking open-mindedness.

The cosmopolitan reception desk along with our edgy wall cladding somewhat mirrors the abstraction and obscurity of the philosophical beliefs that are entrenched in this buildings history.

Piers Eight Bar- The Lowry Theatre

The Lowry Theatre is an architectural flagship which brings a range of visual arts and performing arts to the heart of the redeveloped Salford Quays in Greater Manchester. The Lowry aims to “give everyone access to new areas of creativity and to embrace its broad community”

We were lucky enough to help manufacture and fit out the Pier Eight Bar. This stylish and post-modern bar looks over the dramatic skyline of Salford Quays.  The crisp white chairs, weaving padded seating with our uniquely textured wall cladding helps to complement the creative nature of the Piers Eight Bar and intertwines with the artistic nature that the Lowry Theatre embodies.

John Lewis – Birmingham

Earlier in 2015 we assisted with the design and fit out of the ceiling cladded system at Birmingham. John Lewis encapsulates “Britishness” and their famous Christmas advert which helps kick start Christmas excitement in Britain every year has just been released. We designed a stylish timber roof to help John Lewis lead the way with in store retail design, just as they lead the way in quality designer clothing and advertising.

The finished product at John Lewis Birmingham highlights that KDM go further than just meeting specifications, we create fitting solutions that connect with your internal culture and represent your brand with personality.
